2. WHAT EMOTILINK IS AND IS NOT
emotilink is a technology platform that connects people with independent, licensed mental health providers for scheduled telecounseling sessions. Understanding what emotilink can and cannot do is important for your safety.
emotilink is:
- A scheduling and video-session platform for planned appointments with a licensed provider you choose
- A tool your provider may use to deliver care over the internet
emotilink is not:
- An emergency or crisis service
- A substitute for calling 911 or 988
- A 24-hour hotline, on-call service, or urgent-care provider
- A treating provider — emotilink itself does not provide mental health care and is not a party to the clinical relationship between you and your provider
- Monitored in real time — no one at emotilink watches sessions, reads messages, or reviews your activity for signs of crisis
emotilink cannot dispatch emergency services, contact your emergency contact, or intervene in a crisis. If you are in crisis, use the resources in Section 1.
3. LIMITATIONS OF TELEHEALTH
Telehealth has important limitations you should understand before relying on it:
Technology can fail. Video sessions depend on your internet connection, your device, and services provided by third parties. Sessions may be interrupted, delayed, or dropped. If a session is interrupted and you are in distress, do not wait for the connection to be restored — use the crisis resources in Section 1.
Your provider is not physically present. Your provider cannot physically intervene, cannot see your full surroundings, and may not be able to tell if you are in danger. It is your responsibility to tell your provider if you feel unsafe.
Your provider may not be available between sessions. Most providers on emotilink see clients by scheduled appointment only. Unless your provider has told you otherwise, do not expect your provider to respond to messages or requests between sessions, especially outside business hours. Do not rely on your provider or emotilink for urgent help between sessions.
Some conditions are not appropriate for telehealth. Your provider will use their professional judgment to determine whether telehealth is appropriate for you. If your provider determines that you need a higher level of care — such as in-person treatment, intensive outpatient care, or hospitalization — your provider may refer you elsewhere and may decline to continue treating you over the platform.
4. WHAT YOUR PROVIDER MAY DO IN AN EMERGENCY
Your provider is a licensed professional with ethical and legal duties. If your provider believes you are at serious risk of harming yourself or someone else, your provider may take steps to protect you, which may include:
- Contacting emergency services (911) in your location
- Contacting the emergency contact you provided at registration
- Requesting your physical location so emergency services can be dispatched
- Disclosing information about you to emergency responders or others as permitted by law
To help your provider help you, please keep your emergency contact information and your physical address current in the app, and be honest with your provider about where you are during each session.
emotilink may share your account and location information with your provider or with emergency services when your provider reports an emergency, as described in our Privacy Policy.
5. YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
By using emotilink, you acknowledge and agree that:
- You have read and understood this Notice
- You will use the crisis resources in Section 1 if you are in crisis, rather than relying on emotilink or your provider for emergency help
- You will tell your provider if you feel unsafe or are thinking about harming yourself or others
- You will keep your emergency contact and physical address current in the app
- You understand that emotilink does not monitor sessions or messages and cannot intervene in a crisis
6. WHERE YOU WILL SEE THIS NOTICE
This Notice is provided to you at signup, is linked from every appointment confirmation email, is available at all times at www.emotilink.com/crisis-resources, and is displayed in the app. You may review it at any time.
7. QUESTIONS
Questions about this Notice may be directed to info@emotilink.com. Please do not use this email address for emergencies — it is not monitored in real time. If you are in crisis, use the resources in Section 1.
